Have we got the bottle?

Instituting a bottle refund scheme on drinks containers would be the obvious solution to helping the national litter problem, according to Bill Bryson, President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).

The CPRE has done serious rearch into the issue and maintains that such a scheme would cost little to set up and would "generate revenue to support most of it's own running costs".  Refunding deposits on glass and plastic bottles and cans would also encourage recycling and save public spending on rubbish cleanups, "helping the Government to achieve a zero waste economy".  For more information go to www.cpre.org.uk
