ONE STOP SHOP’S ‘CARRIERS FOR CAUSES’ GRANTS

The One Stop’s ‘Carriers for Causes’ grants programme is the latest incarnation of funds raised from the 5p bag charge in England, Wales and Scotland. The scheme is intended to help with the direct costs of projects that benefit local communities within two miles of a One Stop store in England, Scotland or Wales (note: Northern Ireland isn't included in this scheme).

One Stop Shop has a store locator on its website, which can be found HERE. The maximum grant available is £1,000. There is no match funding requirement and the scheme does offer a marginal contribution towards administration and management costs. The funding can be spent as follows:

  • 90% of the grant must be spent on direct delivery, by which is meant physical works and labour costs;
  • 10% of the grant can be spent on indirect costs, including management, administration, evaluation, promotion, fundraising, and training.
 Projects need to meet at least one of the following outcomes:

  • Improving the lives of young people;
  • Improving the lives of the elderly;
  • Promoting physical activity;
  • Improving health or well being;
  • Increasing community safety; and/or
  • Protecting or improving the local environment.
Non-profit making organisations in England, Scotland and Wales can apply as long as they are constituted and have a governing document. Applications will be accepted from most types of not-for-profit organisations including Community Interest Companies (CICs), Parish and Town Councils, Community Councils, Social Housing providers, schools, health bodies, hospices and local authorities.

Applications are shortlisted on a quarterly basis for panel decision which will take place every three months. Applicants will generally know the outcome of their application within 16 weeks of applying.
